Q: What is the difference between the ground fault “Short amps” and the regular “amps” models?

A: The “Short” setting on the amp range is included on some models for the purpose of meter movement protection. These items are equipped with analog meters using “pivot and jewel” or “taught ban” movements and are somewhat susceptible to vibrational damage. When these items are in the “Short” position this really means the magnet and coil are “shorted” together and offer some stabilization to protect against the vibrations. No reading can be obtained while in “Short” setting. For customers unconcerned about this and would rather have an additional amp range, they can decide to have a 50 amp setting.
